Device Manager says I need a driver, and its properties (DEVICE INSTANCE ID) are: PCI VEN_14E4&DEV_4401&SUBSYS_217914A4&REV_01 4&1A671DOC&0&50F0 The Ethernet drivers at: do not work. For me anyway.

Click to expand.This is an unofficial list, and can never be complete. Still, it suggests an Asus A7V8X motherboard would be a candidate source. So if the only web site you could reach, was support.asus.com, you could try to find a driver under that motherboard name. I didn't do that immediately.

Some of the companies insist you go through your computer maker or laptop maker instead. These are kinda small, and are probably NDIS type. For a Windows 7 driver, it's possible the BCM4401 driver is built-in, and that's why it isn't listed. If Windows 7 didn't have a BCM4401 driver, you could try the appropriate 'bitness' of Vista version.
